Charles Hartley B.Sc. (Hons) M.A. Director, Auctioneer & Valuer

Charles Hartley grew up in the world of antiques spending his childhood hiding away in the dark corners of the auction house before an early working introduction to the firm spending his summers as a porter and in the office. After his degree at Durham University he completed an Art Market Masters in London before joining Hartleys full-time to ghost their highly experienced valuing staff, finally taking up the gavel in 2012 to bring Hartleys into its fourth generation of auctioneers.

As well as being one of the general valuers, Charles is the firm’s specialist in arms, militaria, field sports & taxidermy. With a passion for the section he turned the once yearly auction to a popular twice-yearly event.
