MINIATURE BOOK OF WATERCOLOURS contained alongside its slipcase in a bespoke box labelled: 'Jean Jadot Au Brigadier Tarleton, Bruxelles 21-10-1944'. The box is stained and faded. The book (5.5x3.5cm) is bound in worn roan with gilt panels to the boards, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, containing 4 watercolours and a pencil sketch of low countries landscapes, probably 19th century. The red morocco slipcase seems unlikely to have been made for this volume though the fit is snug. (Est. plus 17.5% premium) (Illustrated) Gerald Tarleton was born in 1893 and saw action on the Normandy beaches in 1944, taking control of the Brussels' Garrison the following year. Jadot seems likely to be the Belgian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church (1909-2009) and this book a wartime gift from one to the other
