A DIAMOND, RUBY AND SAPPHIRE OWL BROOCH, the diamond encrusted owl with cabochon ruby eyes clasping a ruby and diamond flag in its right claw, standing on a diamond and sapphire striped bar and further banner surmounted by a ruby set motto 'PER FAS' (By Right), manufactured by Fattorini in platinum, unmarked, in original tan leather case initialled and dated J.W. 24-1-41 (Illustrated) Provenance: This jewel was gifted to the vendor's mother on her 21st birthday by her father Victor, grandson of Sir Joshua Waddilove (1841-1920). Knighted in the birthday honours in 1919, this is Sir Joshua’s Heraldic crest. Born in Manningham, Bradford and established a clothing and drapery business which in 1880 developed into the Provident Clothing and Supply Co. Ltd. He was a pioneer of the check and credit system, which encouraged thrift and prudential saving and provided discounts for retailers.
