A very rare Wurlitzer "Peacock" type 850 juke box

A very rare Wurlitzer "Peacock" type 850 juke box, American 1940s, playing twenty four 10" 78 r.p.m. records, in veneered wooden case, the front in glass, chrome, plexi-glass and walnut veneer, comprising central panel decorated with illuminated flashing peacock, the rotating colours changing via a rear mounted foil, flanked by two bubble lit panels and fully lit corners and arched top, coin selectors take 25c, 10c and 5c pieces, serial number 788323 (amusement machine No.3738, expiring June 30 1948), 68" x 38" x 26" Launched in 1941 just before America entered the Second World War, the Peacock was regarded as the decorative top of the range at the time. It was designed by Paul Fueller and effectively drew a close to this type of extravagance which finished with the war and its aftermath. The peacock panel in the front with its flashing changes of colour is the crowning part of the machine with the remaining illumination ensuring it presents spectacularly both close to, and from a distance. The machine is in full working order, the only slight adjustment required being the mechanism returning the records back to the magazine, possible tightening of chain to Peacock mechanism and possible later restoration of painted back of record compartment (Est. plus 18% premium inc.
